Thank you this was next door to my sisters house and thank you to the officer who made sure they got out of the house to make sure her and my nieces were safe 😊

Today is National Move Over Law Day. Did you know that under New York State law, drivers traveling in the same direction must exercise due care, including moving from a lane immediately adjacent, and reducing speed, to avoid colliding with a vehicle parked or stopped on the shoulder or any portion of the highway when the vehicle is an authorized emergency response, tow truck, or maintenance vehicle with its lights flashing.

This law was created for the safety of firefighters, police, emergency medical service workers as well as tow and construction workers.

Just this Thursday a Suffolk County Police officer was injured when he was rear ended by a vehicle who failed to move over on the Long Island Expressway while his marked police vehicle was stopped on the shoulder with his emergency lights activated on a traffic stop. There are many accidents where distracted drivers have struck stopped emergency vehicles or workers on our roadways.
