At 6:24 am on Monday May 16th 2016 the East Islip FD was notified for a house fire at 2 Simmons Drive. Due to a daytime automatic aid agreement the Islip Fire Department was immediately also activated to respond. East Islip Fire Chief Keith Villano was the first to arrive who confirmed the working fire advising heavy fire conditions in the basement and first floor of the ranch style home. East Islip and Islip crews made a very aggressive interior fire attack stretching multiple hand lines to both the basement and first floors. Crews were met with tough conditions as well as compromised floors in the home. 1 Islip firefighter on an aggressive interior search of the home fell through a compromised floor into the basement. A "Mayday" was transmitted and the member was immediately helped out of the building and sustained only minor injuries. The Islip Fire Department responded with engines 3-4-1 and 3-4-7 who arrived as the second and third due engine companies as well as all 3 Islip chiefs.
