Dive Team
Dive Team The Islip Fire Department Dive Team is a specialized team of Islip Firefighters who have all completed special training as Public Safety SCUBA divers. The team members have to complete many different SCUBA certification courses to be considered Islip Fire Department Rescue Divers. The team currently is comprised of over 15 divers and many dive tenders. Our team is often deployed all over the area and assists many of our neighboring departments in water rescue incidents. The team can operate from shore, off a beach, dock as well as off our fire boat 3-4-26. The members of the dive team are required to do multiple dives per year as trainings to keep all skills up to par. The team operates with at least 2 divers per incident, always keeping a second diver available as a back up for our diver in the water to ensure their safety. Our members are fully encapsulated in dry suits and utilize full face SCUBA masks. The team members are tethered off to the boat or land with a communications line that works as a 2 way underwater communications system so that our surface team and divers can always be in verbal communications.
